A Pokémon Legends: Arceus Ball Recreated in Hardware, Including Its Jump and Puff of Smoke

A physical build recreates the post-capture motion of the ball from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, actually jumping and releasing smoke. The ball also includes automatic opening and closing.

Kiara's Workshop built the working replica of the game's older-style Poké Ball. Hackaday's article also includes the creator's build video.

A split-second game animation—hop, puff of smoke—becomes a real mechanical engineering problem when you insist that the prop actually do it. Screen logic gets expensive in the physical world.

A Foot-Powered Smoke Rig Makes a Cold Croquette Look Piping Hot

Shintaro Tamefusa built a rig that makes a cold croquette appear piping hot: as he pulls it apart with both hands, he steps on a foot pump and sends smoke through a tube behind the food.

Smoke from a smoke machine is stored in a sealed container and pushed through the tube by the foot pump. When he compared the effect with an actually heated croquette, the real one was painfully hot but produced barely visible steam, while the cold croquette with added smoke looked much hotter.

ファニトロちゃん:ひらめき

Instead of heating the food, the machine adds only the visual evidence of heat. Somehow the cold croquette ends up looking hotter than the real hot one.
